Gather docs
Keep the report page, notes, records, and any delivery or response receipt together.
Example: “This collection shows a balance that does not match the statement I have.”
Draft to send
Pick the right factual message. Say what item is being questioned and why. Keep it truthful and clear.
Example: “Please investigate the balance reported for this account.”
Choose how to send and follow up
Use the path that fits the situation. Save what you sent and what comes back.
OnlineUse the reporting company or furnisher’s direct dispute option when available.
MailMail it yourself, use LetterStream for mailing, or CertifiedMail.com when certified delivery is appropriate.
CFPBUse as a factual complaint/follow-up route after the direct-dispute process.
Main rule: We do not promise deletions or results. We focus on information that may be inaccurate or incomplete, review it, then track the response.
